History

For over 130 years, we have stood for style, quality, and personal service in the heart of the city, directly opposite the State Opera.

In the Palais Todesco, opposite the Vienna Opera, Peter Trefelik’s vision came to life. Where Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Ferdinand von Saar, Henrik Ibsen, and Johann Strauss II once gathered for artistic salons, one of Vienna’s most exclusive fashion salons was established in 1976.
Evolving from a small leather goods shop, the family business has stood for excellence and perfect service for nearly 45 years and has been the first destination for refined taste since its opening in 1977. After the extensive renovation of the once dilapidated premises, the first collections came from the German opera singer and fashion designer Ermano Sens-Grosholz. Step by step, the world’s most famous designers found their way into the selection, and Popp & Kretschmer evolved into one of the largest and most beautiful fashion houses in Vienna. Nevertheless, the traditional company has always maintained its focus on personal contact and perfect service for its diverse clientele.
